Тема: Make up Your Mind. Огляд майбутніх перспектив випускників школи.

Участь молоді в екологічних та соціальних проектах. Гуманітарний розвиток.

Набуття трудових навичок. Perfect Continuous Tenses.

Мета: Вивчити нові ЛО по темі, активно вживати їх під час бесіди по темі та

розуміти їх значення при читанні тексту. Ознайомити з поняттям ‘’Gap

Year’’. Навчити розповідати про свої захоплення, уподобання, мрії.

Повторити структуру часів групи Perfect Continuous та правила їх вживання.

Практикуватись у їх вживанні на письмі та в усному мовленні. Формувати

навики правильної фонетичної вимови ЛО. Розвивати навики усного

мовлення, вміння запитувати та надавати інформацію, розвивати навики

читання, письма; пам'ять, увагу, логічне мислення. Виховувати повагу до

співрозмовника, його думки, вміння працювати у групах, почуття

відповідальності.

Sometimes we are robbed of our time, for example, by telephone calls. Who or what is robbing us of time? What are the most common time thieves?

Last time we were discussing the topic of notes, paraphrasing and summarising. So let’s refresh what we learnt.

T-S1, S2…: What are the notes? What characteristics of making notes do you know?

What is the difference between paraphrasing and summarising? Take a piece of paper and try to make up an example of your own notes. Now present your notes to the class.

Speaking. Have you ever heard such an expression as “gap year”? What does it mean? I hope you have guessed that today we are going to talk about gap year. First pay attention to the meaning of the expression.

A gap year is a year between leaving school and further education.

Those who take this gap year do voluntary or paid work, often abroad. It will be useful for their future jobs and they will be more attractive candidates for jobs than those who go straight from school to university.

Also you must remember that employers always want their employees to have certain qualities. I suggest you reading some of them in ex.1p.44. How do you think where students acquire these qualities: at school or outside school?

Reading. Now read the article “Fill That Gap” and decide which of the messages (a-c) is the main message of the article. (Ex.2 p.44) Support your view with the information from the text.

After reading activities

Answer my questions using the text:



  1. Why are the employers particularly interested in the skills that students pick up when travelling?

  2. What are the main reasons for taking a gap year?

  3. What range of activities can school-leavers choose for their gap year?

  4. Do you think that voluntary work can be tough? Why? Why not?

Now decide which of the following messages (a-g) is not included in the text. (Ex3 p.46)

Work in pairs. Look for 5 types of gap year activities in paragraph 3 of the article. Ask and answer the questions in pairs. (Ex.6 p.47)

Perfect Continuous Tenses

The Present Perfect Continuous Tense reports events in progress “up to now”

The Past Perfect Continuous Tense reports events in progress in the time period “up to a point in the past”.

Had been working before

e.g. Before I came here I had been walking around the city for two hours.

The Future Perfect Continuous Tense reports events in progress in the period “up to a point in the future”.

Shall/will have been driving in/next

e.g. They will have been living in this town for 10 years in a month.
